Privacy policy
The short version. We don’t collect your data. There’s no account to create, no ads, no analytics and no tracking.
Your farm records live on your iPhone or iPad and in your own private iCloud account. We can’t see them.
Who we are
The app is published by MK Media Group LLC, doing business as Kummer Homestead, Chattooga County, Georgia, USA (“we”, “us”). Questions about this policy: [email protected].
Where your records are kept
Everything you enter, including herds, paddocks and their map outlines, moves, rain readings, feed and supplements, animals, weights, treatments, soil tests (with the lab’s report if you add it), field notes and their photos, is stored:
- On your device, and
- In your private iCloud database, if you’re signed in to iCloud, so it syncs between your own devices. Apple stores this data under your Apple Account. We have no access to it. Apple’s handling of iCloud data is covered by Apple’s privacy policy.
Sharing a farm. If you choose Share this farm and invite someone, a copy of that farm’s records is kept in your iCloud in a space Apple shares only with the people you invite, so they can see it (and change it, if you allow). It goes through Apple’s iCloud sharing, not through us. Stop sharing removes their access; Leave this farm removes it from their device. A farm shared with you is kept on your device only, not in your own iCloud.
The home-screen widget and Siri shortcut read a small summary that stays on your device. Search, including iPhone Spotlight, uses an index kept on your device.
A drone photo you add to the map is kept only on that device. It isn’t synced to iCloud or included in your device backups.
“Ask” answers questions with Apple Intelligence on your device; your question and records don’t leave it.
What the app sends to other services
To work out your climate, soil and rain, the app contacts a few services. None of them receive your name, email, farm records or any ID that identifies you to us.
| Service | What is sent | When |
|---|---|---|
| Apple location lookup | The ZIP code you type | When you set your farm location by ZIP code, to turn it into a map position |
| Apple Weather (WeatherKit) | Your farm’s map position | To estimate rain for days you didn’t read your gauge. To turn it off: Land tab → All rain entries → “Fill days without a reading”. |
| USDA Soil Data Access | Your map pin, rounded to about 110 meters (360 feet) | Only if you set your location with a map pin, to look up your soil type |
| Apple Maps | The map area you’re looking at | When you open the paddock map, to draw the map or satellite view under your outlines |
| kummerhomestead.com | Nothing about you; the app downloads a list of fencing and water gear | Occasionally, to keep the gear list current |
Long-term weather averages (NOAA climate normals) are built into the app, so finding your nearest weather station happens on your device. The app does not ask for permission to use your device’s location.
Camera and photos
The app asks for the camera only when you take a photo for a field note. Photos you take or pick are stored with the note, on your device and in your private iCloud, like your other records. The app doesn’t read anything else from your photo library.
Subscriptions and payments
Subscriptions are sold and billed by Apple through the App Store. We never see your payment details. Apple tells the app whether your subscription is active so it can unlock features.
Notifications
Reminders, such as an upcoming move or a paddock that has rested, are scheduled on your device. They are not sent from a server.
Exports and imports
When you export your records to Excel or CSV, the file is created on your device and goes only where you choose to share or save it. Files you import are read on your device.
What we don’t do
- We don’t collect personal information.
- We don’t use analytics, advertising or tracking tools, and we don’t sell or share data.
- We don’t track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
If you email us, we’ll use your email only to reply.
Deleting your data
- In the app: Settings (gear button) → Reset farm and start over deletes your farm records on this device and in iCloud.
- Deleting the app removes the copy on that device. To remove the iCloud copy as well, go to Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Storage on your iPhone or iPad and delete the app’s data.
Children
The app is a farm-management tool meant for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect information from children.
Changes to this policy
If the app’s handling of data changes, we’ll update this page and the date at the top. Significant changes will also be noted in the app’s release notes.
