Privacy policy
The short version. We don’t collect your data. There’s no account to create, no ads, no analytics and no tracking.
Your flock records live on your iPhone, iPad or Mac and in your own private iCloud account. We can’t see them.
If you share your farm, the people you invite see it through Apple’s iCloud sharing. It still never reaches us.
Who we are
The app is published by MK Media Group LLC, doing business as Kummer Homestead, Chattooga County, Georgia, USA (“we”, “us”). Questions about this policy: [email protected].
Where your records are kept
Everything you enter, including batches of birds, head counts, coops and how they’re kept, moves, egg counts, chores, feed counts, feed orders and what they cost, supplements and your farm’s settings, is stored:
- On your device, and
- In your private iCloud database, if you’re signed in to iCloud, so it syncs between your own devices. Apple stores this data under your Apple Account. We have no access to it. Apple’s handling of iCloud data is covered by Apple’s privacy policy.
Flock also writes a short summary of your coops (their names, the kinds and breeds of birds in them, head counts and daily feed) to a shared space on the same device, so our Grazing app can read it if you use both. It never leaves your device that way.
The Siri and Shortcuts action “Log eggs” runs on your device and adds to your own records.
Sharing a farm with family or helpers
You can invite people to use your farm on their own iPhone, iPad or Mac, with their own Apple Account (Settings → Share this farm). Nothing is shared unless you send an invitation.
- What they see: everything on the farm, including batches, counts, coops, eggs, feed, health notes, nest spots and their photos. You choose what each person can do: everything, daily work, or view only.
- Where it’s kept: a copy of the farm is kept in a shared area of your private iCloud database, using Apple’s CloudKit sharing, and counts toward your iCloud storage. That includes what the people you invited add, photos too. Each person you invite keeps a copy on their own devices.
- Names: Apple’s sharing shows each person’s name, and the email address or phone number the invitation went to, to the farm’s owner and to the others on the farm. Eggs someone logs carry their name, so everyone can see who collected them.
- Invitations are sent by you, through Messages, Mail or a link, using Apple’s sharing sheet.
We don’t receive any of this. Apple handles the sharing under Apple’s privacy policy.
What the app sends to other services
None of these receive your name, email, flock records or any ID that identifies you to us.
| Service | What is sent | When |
|---|---|---|
| kummerhomestead.com | Nothing about you; the app downloads the gear list | Occasionally, to keep the gear list current |
| Stores in the gear list (such as Amazon) | What your browser sends when you open any web link | Only when you tap a product. Some links are affiliate links: the store tells us a sale came from our link, never who bought it. |
Day length is worked out on your device from the latitude you type in. The app does not ask for permission to use your device’s location.
Feed orders and other files
When you import a feed order (a PDF, pasted email text or a spreadsheet), it is read on your device. The app keeps only the lines you choose to save: product, amount, date, cost, supplier and order number. The rest of the file, such as your address, is not stored.
Photos and the camera
You can add a photo to a nest spot or a health note, taken with the camera or picked from your photo library. The app asks before it uses the camera, and from your library it can see only the photos you pick. Each photo is made smaller and kept with your other records, on your device and in your private iCloud database, and, if you share your farm, with the people you invited. It is never sent anywhere else.
What we don’t do
- We don’t collect personal information.
- We don’t use analytics, advertising or tracking tools, and we don’t sell or share data.
- We don’t track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
If you email us, we’ll use your email only to reply.
Deleting your data
- Deleting the app removes the copy on that device.
- To stop sharing your farm: Settings → Share this farm → Stop sharing. The shared copy is deleted from iCloud and from the devices of everyone you invited; your own records stay.
- To leave a farm someone shared with you: Settings → Leave this farm. Its copy is removed from your device.
- To remove the iCloud copy as well: on your iPhone or iPad, Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Storage (on a Mac, System Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage), then delete Flock’s data.
Children
The app is a farm-management tool meant for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect information from children.
Changes to this policy
If the app’s handling of data changes, we’ll update this page and the date at the top. Significant changes will also be noted in the app’s release notes.
